NeuRIL Network
Neuroscience Research Institute Leaders
Connecting executive leaders of academic research centers
Who we are
We are the senior administrative executives and operational strategists steering academic neuroscience institutes across the United States. Mirroring the interdisciplinary nature of the field itself, our backgrounds span diverse scientific domains and non-academic leadership paths. Together, we manage the complex institutional footprints—including strategic planning, faculty development, massive funding portfolios, and complex technical resources—that allow cutting-edge science to flourish. We are bound by a shared dedication to operational excellence, strategic innovation, and the open exchange of knowledge—all to transform institutional potential to address the greatest challenges in brain science.
Our purpose
We believe that interdisciplinary research institutes are the ultimate engines of discovery. Unlocking the potential of these complex organizations in the ever more complex research ecosystem requires strategic and operational excellence. The NeuRIL Network connects and develops the executive leaders of these institutes.Through a robust, trusted peer network, NeuRIL empowers its members to:Optimize Institutional Operations: Sharpen leadership skills and share best practices to build more resilient, efficient research environments.Amplify Scientific Opportunities: Cultivate a national footprint to share announcements, deadlines, and career opportunities relevant to the network members and the research community.Navigate the Research Landscape: Stay ahead of national trends, shifting funding priorities, and systemic challenges to more effectively steer research institutes
Our story
NeuRIL began in 2024 with a simple but powerful realization. Recognizing that neuroscience institute leaders faced a unique set of shared opportunities and challenges—yet lacked a dedicated space to connect—founder Kelley Remole brought together a small group of visionary colleagues. What started as a handful of loose connections quickly revealed a profound need for peer-to-peer connection and collaboration.
From those first informal meetings, our mission became clear: to build a collaborative ecosystem where executives could openly share institutional strategies, foster their own professional development, and ultimately amplify the scientific potential of their respective institutes.
Today, NeuRIL has grown into a vibrant, trusted network representing brain-focused institutes at major research universities across the United States. As we continue to expand, we remain grounded in the core belief that drove our founding—that the future of neuroscience is accelerated when its leaders collaborate.
Our footprint
NeuRIL’s national reach spans the country's most prestigious research landscape, bridging elite academic departments, dedicated medical center hubs, and world-renowned, interdisciplinary brain science institutes.
